Role Summary
The Legal & Compliance Officer ensures that Built By DAO operates in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role works closely with legal counsel and regulatory bodies to stay updated on relevant legal developments and advises leadership on risk management and compliance strategies. The Legal & Compliance Officer plays a critical role in maintaining the organization’s legal integrity and fostering a culture of accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Task Group 1: Legal Compliance
Monitor and ensure compliance with local, national, and international laws affecting DAO operations.
Collaborate with legal counsel to interpret laws and regulations and apply them to organizational practices.
Develop and implement policies to address legal and regulatory requirements.
Task Group 2: Risk Management
Identify and assess potential legal risks associated with organizational operations and activities.
Advise leadership on strategies to mitigate identified risks.
Conduct periodic compliance audits to ensure adherence to policies and regulations.
Task Group 3: Regulatory Engagement
Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, maintaining a positive relationship and ensuring transparency.
Prepare and submit reports, filings, and documentation required by regulatory authorities.
Represent Built By DAO during audits, inquiries, or legal proceedings.
Task Group 4: Training and Communication
Develop training programs to educate staff and members on compliance obligations and best practices.
Communicate policy updates and legal changes to relevant teams and stakeholders.
Serve as a resource for addressing compliance-related questions or concerns.
Skills and Qualifications
Required Skills
Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to DAOs, blockchain, and real estate development.
Analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting laws and developing compliance strategies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaising with regulatory bodies and educating stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with blockchain governance and smart contract legality.
Experience with risk assessment and compliance auditing.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent legal qualification.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance, legal counsel, or regulatory affairs.
Certification in compliance or risk management (e.g., CCEP, CRISC) is a plus.
Performance Metrics
Timeliness and accuracy in addressing compliance requirements and submitting filings.
Reduction in legal risks and successful mitigation of potential issues.
Positive feedback from regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
Key Activities
Draft and review legal documents, policies, and contracts to ensure compliance.
Monitor regulatory updates and implement necessary organizational changes.
Provide legal support during governance meetings and decision-making processes.

Summary: The Compliance Analyst supports the Legal & Compliance Officer by monitoring compliance metrics, preparing documentation, and assisting in regulatory engagements.

Assist with the preparation of regulatory filings and compliance audits.
Conduct research on laws and regulations affecting DAO activities.
