Role Summary

The Architect/Urban Planner is responsible for developing site layouts and building designs that align with Built By DAO’s sustainability goals and community-driven mission. This role ensures that designs are not only functional and cost-effective but also promote community integration and long-term scalability. The Architect/Urban Planner collaborates with stakeholders, including community members, engineers, and regulatory officials, to create designs that reflect the needs of the organization and its members.


Key Responsibilities

Task Group 1: Site Planning and Design

  • Develop detailed site layouts, including building placement, infrastructure, and green spaces.

  • Design housing and mixed-use buildings that prioritize energy efficiency, affordability, and functionality.

  • Ensure designs adhere to Built By DAO’s principles of sustainability and future scalability.

Task Group 2: Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Land Acquisition Specialists to evaluate land suitability for proposed designs.

  • Work with community members to integrate feedback and ensure designs reflect local needs and preferences.

  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and sustainability specialists to align designs with technical and environmental requirements.

Task Group 3: Compliance and Documentation

  • Prepare architectural drawings, 3D models, and design documentation for review and approval.

  • Ensure designs comply with local zoning laws, building codes, and environmental regulations.

  • Present designs to regulatory bodies, leadership teams, and community stakeholders.


Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in architectural design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp.

  • Strong knowledge of sustainable building practices and urban planning principles.

  • Ability to translate community needs into practical and aesthetically pleasing designs.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in designing affordable housing or community-oriented developments.

  • Familiarity with GIS software for land-use planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field.

  • Licensed architect or urban planner with at least 5 years of professional experience.


Performance Metrics

  • Number of designs approved by leadership and regulatory bodies.

  • Percentage of projects delivered on time and within budget.

  • Positive feedback from community stakeholders on design suitability.


Key Activities

  • Conduct site visits to assess terrain and environmental conditions.

  • Create renderings and prototypes to visualize design concepts.

  • Participate in planning and zoning meetings to advocate for project designs.


Tools and Resources

  • Design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp) for creating detailed layouts.

  • GIS tools for spatial analysis and urban planning.

  • Presentation tools (PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator) for stakeholder engagement.
