Role Summary
The Director of Legal & Compliance oversees all legal and regulatory matters for Built By DAO, ensuring the organization operates in compliance with applicable laws and maintains a strong standing with regulatory bodies. This role provides strategic guidance on risk management, monitors regulatory changes, and advises on their impact on governance and operations. The Director of Legal & Compliance plays a critical role in protecting Built By DAO’s legal integrity and fostering a culture of accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Task Group 1: Legal Oversight
Supervise legal matters, including contracts, partnerships, and intellectual property rights.
Provide legal advice to leadership on organizational policies, governance practices, and operational risks.
Collaborate with external legal counsel as needed to address complex legal issues.
Task Group 2: Compliance Management
Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
Oversee compliance audits and address findings to mitigate risks and strengthen practices.
Ensure all governance activities align with local, national, and international regulations.
Task Group 3: Risk Assessment and Mitigation
Identify potential legal and regulatory risks associated with governance and operations.
Advise leadership on strategies to mitigate risks and maintain compliance.
Monitor emerging legal trends and regulatory changes that could impact Built By DAO.
Task Group 4: Training and Communication
Develop training programs to educate staff and members on compliance obligations and best practices.
Communicate updates on legal and regulatory changes to governance teams and stakeholders.
Serve as a resource for addressing legal and compliance-related questions or concerns.
Task Group 5: Reporting and Policy Development
Prepare regular reports on legal and compliance matters for the CGO and executive leadership.
Review and update governance policies to reflect current legal and regulatory requirements.
Maintain detailed records of compliance activities and documentation.
Skills and Qualifications
Required Skills
In-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks related to DAOs, blockchain, and real estate development.
Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage compliance operations and risk mitigation strategies.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to address legal and regulatory challenges.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with blockchain-based governance and smart contract legality.
Experience in regulatory compliance audits and reporting.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent legal qualification.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in legal, compliance, or regulatory roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
Certification in compliance or risk management (e.g., CCEP, CRISC) is advantageous.
Performance Metrics
Timeliness and accuracy of legal and compliance guidance and reporting.
Reduction in legal risks and successful mitigation of compliance issues.
Positive feedback from regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders on compliance practices.
