Code: 2A5 Division: Construction & Property Division Department: Pre-Construction & Planning Reports To: Pre-Construction Project Manager Related Roles: Land Acquisition Specialist, Architect/Urban Planner, Environmental Specialist


Role Summary

The Surveyor is responsible for conducting land and topographical surveys to provide precise data that supports the planning and design of Built By DAO’s projects. This role ensures accurate measurements and terrain assessments, which are critical for compliance with zoning and environmental regulations. By working closely with architects, engineers, and project managers, the Surveyor plays a vital role in ensuring that site designs are feasible and align with project requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Task Group 1: Land and Topographical Surveys

  • Conduct on-site surveys to measure land boundaries, elevations, and other physical features.

  • Use surveying equipment (e.g., GPS, theodolites, and drones) to gather accurate data.

  • Create detailed maps, plots, and topographical models for use in planning and design.

Task Group 2: Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyze survey data to identify potential design challenges, such as terrain irregularities or drainage issues.

  • Prepare comprehensive survey reports and maps for use by architects, engineers, and project managers.

  • Ensure all data complies with legal and regulatory requirements.

Task Group 3: Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to integrate survey data into project designs.

  • Work with environmental specialists to identify and mitigate any ecological impacts.

  • Provide insights to the Permit & Regulatory Specialist to ensure designs meet zoning and compliance standards.


Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment, GIS software, and CAD tools.

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret survey data and provide actionable insights.

  • Attention to detail for creating accurate and reliable maps and models.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with drone-based surveying and 3D mapping.

  • Familiarity with environmental and zoning regulations.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

  • Licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or equivalent certification.

  • At least 3 years of experience in land surveying.


Performance Metrics

  • Accuracy and reliability of survey data used in project designs.

  • Timeliness in delivering survey reports and maps for project planning.

  • Positive feedback from architects, engineers, and project managers on data quality and collaboration.

  • Conduct field measurements using advanced surveying tools and techniques.

  • Collaborate with design and planning teams to address site-specific challenges.

Surveying Assistant – 2A5-S1

Summary: The Surveying Assistant supports the Surveyor in conducting fieldwork, data collection, and map preparation. This entry-level role is designed for individuals seeking to develop technical skills and gain practical experience in surveying.

Key Tasks:

  • Assist with setting up and operating surveying equipment such as GPS and total stations.

  • Record measurements and ensure accuracy in data collection.

  • Help prepare maps and diagrams using GIS or CAD software under the Surveyor’s supervision.

  • Maintain and calibrate surveying tools to ensure proper functioning.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with basic surveying tools and techniques.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Pursuing a degree or certification in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Performance Metrics:

  • Accuracy of measurements and support provided during fieldwork.

  • Timeliness and reliability in completing assigned tasks.
