## Part 1 — Apply

### Step 1 — Sign In

Go to [app.builtbydao.com](https://app.builtbydao.com). Existing accounts can sign in with a supported method such as Google or their linked wallet. New applicants choose Apply to Join and follow the current registration requirements, using the single-use code in their email invitation, before completing onboarding.

![The Built By DAO sign-in page](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-f4a0ea50a97fa63fb71a4da1b1ed579bd5545317%2Fmember-01-login.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 2 — Your Identity

The **Join the DAO** wizard has 9 steps, tracked by the progress bar. Everything saves as you go, so you can leave and come back anytime. Start with your identity: your legal name (kept private), the display name other members see, and contact details.

![Step 1 of the wizard — identity, filled in](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-82e863d6c8a609a614b38066d31915b0836ea4f9%2Fmember-02-wizard-identity.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 3 — Location

Tell us where you're based and how far you'll travel for on-site work. This routes physical project opportunities to you and sets your time zone.

![The location step](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-3261175002288b09b5188a0c2ce30c572329e1b3%2Fmember-03-wizard-location.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 4 — Cohort

Choose your local chapter. Your primary cohort determines your local events and community; you can optionally add a secondary one.

![The cohort step with Chicago selected as primary](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-31f5b20a551c786a4388edd1ab0dac9e486541c4%2Fmember-04-wizard-cohort.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 5 — Availability

Set your hours per week, commitment length, and how you like to work (on-site, remote, or both). Task matching respects your schedule.

![The availability step](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-98f4a892d23684ac66c9c8c872a110c3a0f89a2b%2Fmember-05-wizard-availability.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 6 — Skills

Select the skills you bring and set your proficiency on each. This drives your **match scores** — the percentage you'll see on every task once you're active.

![The skills step](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-56ec39bc42c059e9d3d5aa1a9dee4a2a9bb98d57%2Fmember-06-wizard-skills.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 7 — Equipment

List tools and equipment you own or can operate. This is optional — it just helps match you to specialized work — and you can update it anytime from your profile.

![The equipment step with a tool added](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a1357ba823c2734a9053d2435f2423ec72fe955a%2Fmember-07-wizard-equipment.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 8 — Work Preferences

Tell us how you like to work: solo or in a team, your preferred environments, and any physical or safety considerations.

![The work-preferences step](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-05b4698961badc896cd667760ec9dc980a969351%2Fmember-08-wizard-preferences.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 9 — DAO Preferences

Share your crypto experience, risk tolerance, governance interests, and where you're starting — as a contributor showing up to do work, or a builder ready to take ownership.

![The DAO-preferences step](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5014052c5c0466b89be8dd4704bdbeae527aa788%2Fmember-09-wizard-dao.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 10 — Review and Submit

The final step shows your eligibility checklist and consents. Accept the terms, then submit.

![The final review step at 100% complete](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-d48737a1619b9dc14a8f51c11db8ffbdc5bd01f8%2Fmember-10-wizard-complete.png?alt=media)

A confirmation dialog makes sure you're ready — once you submit, an admin reviews your profile.

![The submit confirmation dialog](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-61846ce8426ba59125274c6bca07747ab14cbed2%2Fmember-11-submit-dialog.png?alt=media)

***

## Part 2 — Onboard

### Step 11 — Track Your Application

After submitting, your onboarding home shows overall progress and what's left. Your profile is marked complete, and two things still gate approval: **education** and **linking a wallet**.

![The application status page after submitting](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-7484a67686df7156ebac9569c22881d01bd3e1a9%2Fmember-12-application-status.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 12 — The Education Center

Education stays open while your application is under review — you don't have to wait for approval to start learning. The DAO Onboarding course is required; additional courses are optional.

![The education center](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-10ceea877b710d7dc238ec4c5290b891f7c6cee6%2Fmember-13-education-hub.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 13 — Take a Lesson

Each lesson is broken into sections with key takeaways. Work through them at your own pace.

![A lesson — "The Housing Crisis"](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e6de83d709356223e306bbfe8c8830d332bfb2eb%2Fmember-14-lesson.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 14 — Pass the Quizzes

Each course ends with a quiz. Pass all three onboarding quizzes to complete the education requirement.

![A quiz — Built By DAO Basics](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-6aa6a94810f4590a854d40690e6ee9203d0a2db3%2Fmember-15-quiz.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 15 — Link Your Wallet

Link a wallet so your membership NFT, tokens, and rewards have somewhere to live. Your wallet enables receiving rewards, voting in governance, and accessing your assets. Connect MetaMask, Ledger, Coinbase Wallet, or any WalletConnect-compatible wallet.

![The wallet-linking screen](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5398ca386cb1550fc47642d3d6b2a904d4b5262f%2Fmember-16-wallet-link.png?alt=media)

With your profile submitted, education complete, and a wallet linked, your application is ready for an admin’s review. Approval opens member access; meeting the checklist does not guarantee approval.

***

## Part 3 — Work

### Step 16 — Your Dashboard

Once you're approved, the dashboard is home base — quick wins to get started, plus your tasks, earnings, and events as you go.

![The dashboard for a newly approved member](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5f94fdb9a76a1fcb9fa4f9de8096aa66d9b1004a%2Fmember-17-approved-dashboard.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 17 — Browse Available Tasks

**Available Tasks** lists open work matched to you. Each card shows a match percentage, the project it belongs to, a time estimate, and priority. Filter by best matches, urgency, remote, or learning opportunities.

![The available tasks list with match scores](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-88838b5310768004c2976a18d318ead76a9e3ee5%2Fmember-18-opportunities.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 18 — Claim a Task

Expand a task to see the full description, subtasks, skill requirements, and rewards. When it’s a fit, use the claim action shown by the app. You may hold at most five tasks, including crew tasks.

![An expanded task card with the Claim & Start button](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-60eb0f1b796bd7e04304ab8534512d89814c3bc4%2Fmember-19-claim.png?alt=media)

A claim that needs review waits for a project lead’s approval. You can also accept an offer or receive an assignment; see [Tasks](/contributors/tasks.md).

![The task showing a pending claim](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-9955310a9cc193060463137b64194f4c6ccf1a1b%2Fmember-20-claim-pending.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 19 — Track Your Work

Once your claim is approved, the task appears in **My Tasks**, where you track everything from in-progress through review and completion.

![The My Tasks view with an in-progress task](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-fd2a393470676e4681d6c0aabea986f8557df358%2Fmember-21-my-tasks.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 20 — Do the Work

Open a subtask to see its instructions and deliverables. Press **Start Working** when you begin — the four-step tracker (Start → Do → Submit → Review) keeps the work organized.

![A subtask ready to start](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-dd54070d652df6d1022f6a12c40b9e0a1aee19b7%2Fmember-22-start-work.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 21 — Submit for Review

When the contribution is done, submit it: log the required activity, describe what you accomplished, and attach the required link, file, or attestation. Review approval completes the task; any Contribution EQTBLT settlement remains a separate policy, authorization, and confirmation step.

![The submit-work dialog, filled in](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a9095f9165f0690ccae55a1853782bda696c444d%2Fmember-23-submit-work.png?alt=media)

***

### Step 22 — Track Your Earnings

**My Earnings** distinguishes estimates, pending transactions, and confirmed BLTBY/EQTBLT history. A balance changes only when the applicable contract transaction confirms; not every approved task qualifies.

![The My Earnings page](https://3589909821-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5wmALqj8SQscTshgGg0M%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-645d6816f8fbfaa24b2bd696d457839ed05afe6f%2Fmember-24-my-earnings.png?alt=media)

***

{% hint style="success" %}
**🎉 That's the full loop:** apply → onboard → claim → contribute → submit → review → confirm any eligible settlement. Contributor governance uses eligible confirmed Contribution EQTBLT plus the proposal's current rules.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.builtbydao.com/guides/member-walkthrough.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
